Patchouli (For Men but Gentle enough for women)
WHAT IS PATCHOULI SOAP USED FOR?
For many, just pronouncing the word patchouli conjures up images of the ’60s, counter-culture, or a hippy lifestyle some may all but want to forget! However, long before there was a Woodstock, patchouli made a name for itself as an effective treatment for a variety of conditions.
WHERE DOES PATCHOULI COME FROM?
Derived from the leaves of its namesake plant, patchouli essential oil has many therapeutic properties when added to a cleansing bar such as Patchouli Soap Bar. Patchouli’s distinctive earthy and spicy scent is often associated with a grounding, calming, and mood harmonizing fragrance.
It is no wonder that patchouli is often sought after by those seeking relief from anxiety, depression, and sleep disorders. a-Guaiene is the property of patchouli oil which gives it its sedative quality and triggers the body's release of serotonin and dopamine, both associated with boosting mood and fostering relaxation.
WHAT ARE SOME OTHER BENEFITS OF PATCHOULI?
Beyond its psychological benefits, patchouli soap has a multitude of medicinal and health-related benefits including hydration and proper balancing of oils, anti-aging, wound care, acne treatment, and more.
While some essential oils are good for only one skin type, patchouli offers relief for dry, oily, or combination skin. By balancing the body’s production of sebum, patchouli can hydrate dry skin by speeding up the production of sebum, or treat excessively oily skin by slowing down the production of this oil. In other words, a patchouli facial cleanser disrupts what the skin is experiencing and restores it to a more balanced state. Patchouli soap can help those with eczema while also treating acne. No need to purchase two separate products for two different conditions as patchouli soap will treat both!
Patchouli oil has long been used to combat the effects of aging. Caryophyllene, one of the key components in patchouli with astringent properties, boosts circulation by increasing the oxygen to organs and cells which helps the body to exhibit a healthy and youthful appearance. Patchouli also promotes the skin’s ability to retain moisture which reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. There is no question that well-hydrated skin equals younger-looking skin!
The same caryophyllene compound that promotes youthful-looking skin also reduces the appearance of acne scars, stretch marks, and other scared skin. This compound, known for its analgesic, anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal, and anti-bacterial properties, can also speed up the healing process. Patchouli soap is in essence a cleansing bar that can be likened to a first aid kit for the skin!
Probably the most well-known use of patchouli is neutralizing odors. When added to soap or other skin care products such as bath oil or shampoo, patchouli eliminates odor and leaves behind a pleasant and clean scent.
In summary, a patchouli soap bar just might provide one-stop shopping for a variety of skincare needs.
